In many of the pieces in this exhibition, Sokenu deploys textured strokes to etch out a surreal kind of 3D realism. Splish-splash patterned brushstrokes infuse a vibrant sense of motion in the collection. His works portray a high standard of application, sifting colours on canvas to convey intriguing depth between the strokes of accidental lines that connect different edges of the canvas. With a mastery of oil paint, Sokenu has recently begun exploring other media in his new series of works with the use of spray paints, news print, oil pastel and acrylic paints.

Born in 1976 in Lagos, where he still lives and works, Abayomi studied Fine and Applied Arts at the Yaba College of Technology. He is a professional artist who previously worked as an illustrator in an advertising company following his youth service in Kaduna. He is a full-time practising artist and has exhibited his work in many exhibitions in Nigeria. Chuck gallery is proud and happy to bring these beautiful impressionist, primarily, figurative paintings to the attention of a discerning Manchester  market and launch this diligent professional’s career in Europe.

He is a member of the society of Nigeria artists (SNA) and ART zero group. He is happily married with one daughter.
